#5478 (No video on Vista, using VLC 0.8.6a) - Democracy - Trac Original author: anonymous
For windows 0.9.6.1 includes the latest release of VLC which solves this problem, and compatibility mode for XP is no longer turned on. Please try this update and open a new ticket if you are still experiencing playback issues. Original author: jed
The workaround implemented for 0.9.6 works. Democracy is set to automatically run in compatibility mode for XP. However, I am going to leave the ticket open for now and put in testing milestone to remember for the next version of vlc. Original author: jed

Replying to [ticket:5478 jed]: > Using windows Vista, for every video played, there is no video, just audio. I was not able to see video using DirectX 3D, but fixed it using the following: Make sure Advanced Options is checked. Set your output module to DirectX 3D. Go to the Direct X Video output sub-node. In name of desired display device, click on the "Refresh list" button. Then select "\\.\DISPLAY1". Save changes and then play the video. Original author: anonymous
Thanks for your input. I'm not able to see any video either. Not sure if the realplayer is needed or quicktime or neither.... Pretty new to all of this.... Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support and expertise. Ken Original author: l,vwic@netscape.net
Change your VLC video output to OpenGL. 1. Tick Advanced Options (bottom right of preferences) 2. Open Output Modules, which is in Settings/Preferences/Video/Output Modules 3. Select the drop down box and select OpenGL 4. Restart player if required. 5. If player still does not play any video then try another setting e.g. DirectX Original author: m_pynaert@hotmail.com
To get things working again: * Right-click on the Democracy launch icon. * Select properties. * Click on the Compatibility tab * Select Windows XP SP2 Save close and launch Democracy. You will see a message stating that Aeroglass has been disabled, but you will have both video and audio. Original author: jed
I'm on Vista Business and am having the problem with 0.9.5.1 and 0.9.5.2. Is there any way to get my hands on 0.9.5.0 again? Democracy Player is completely useless to me now. Original author: Jason
"I don't use VLC, and I'm having the same error. It started once I upgraded from .9.5.0 to 9.5.2." I have exactly the same problem. Original author: anonymous
I don't use VLC, and I'm having the same error. It started once I upgraded from .9.5.0 to 9.5.2. Any ideas? Original author: WetBiscut
Running Democracy in compatibility mode for Windows XP worked for me. Aero Glass is disabled when starting a video, though. Original author: claude.henchoz@gmail.com
1. Open VLC media player. 2. Click on Settings and select Preferences… . 3. Expand Video and click on Output modules. 4. Check Advanced options in the lower right corner. 5. Set Video output module to either “DirectX“, “OpenGL” or “Windows GDI“ You’ll need to restart VLC media player after the change. Original author: dude
If you make a "Capture Scree" while the tumbnail is showing you will see the videostream on screen but gets black again when tumbnail disepears. Original author: anonymous
